What are detergents? How do detergents work?

Posted last June 4, 2018, 5:27 am in Services report article

Detergents are chemical substances or say laundry products that have the ability to remove or separate the dirt that is on the surface of an object without corroding or damaging it and are known as cleaning agents. To be considered detergents, they must remove both grease and dirt without affecting the clothes.

Unlike soaps, laundry detergents maintain their cleaning capacity even in hard water. This ability made them extremely popular for washing clothes.

The structure of detergents is made up of two parts: one called lipophilic and the other hydrophilic.

- Lipophilic part: It has an affinity with fats and oils and is responsible for locating them when a detergent is applied.

- Hydrophilic part: It has an affinity with water and gives detergents the characteristic of maintaining their cleaning abilities in the water.

In general, the detergent powder has attributed the ability to modify the surface tension of water to carry out the cleaning process.
